Getting Started

Does a Winnes GPS tracker need a SIM card?
A GPS tracker uses satellite signals to determine its location, but it normally needs a mobile data connection to send that location to the tracking platform. Depending on the version, the tracker may use your own SIM, an included subscription SIM, or a built-in IoT SIM. Check the manual supplied with your exact tracker.
Where can I find my Device ID and how do I log in?
The Device ID is usually printed on the tracker or packaging. For a single tracker, use Login by ID. Depending on the version, the initial password may be the last four digits of the Device ID or 123456. Follow the supplied manual for your exact tracker.
What should I do before first use?
Charge the tracker as instructed, confirm the tracker/SIM version, activate the SIM or subscription, power on the device, then take it outdoors to an open area. Allow about 2–5 minutes for the first GPS fix under good conditions.

SIM Card & Network

What SIM card do I need if I use my own SIM?
Use an activated SIM that supports the mobile network technology required by your tracker and has mobile data service. Disable the SIM PIN. If you need SMS functions, the plan must support ordinary SMS. Feature availability depends on the tracker version.
What is an APN and when should I check it?
APN stands for Access Point Name. It tells an own-SIM tracker how to connect to the carrier’s mobile data network. Check it mainly when an applicable own-SIM tracker cannot come Online. Subscription or built-in IoT versions are normally preconfigured and should not be changed without model-specific instructions or Support guidance.
Why does my tracker show LTE/4G but the app is Offline?
Cellular registration does not always mean a working mobile-data session exists. An incorrect APN, SIM-plan restriction, weak coverage or a temporary network issue can prevent communication with the tracking platform.
Can a 2G tracker be upgraded to 4G?
No. 2G and 4G trackers use different cellular hardware. A 2G-only tracker cannot be converted to 4G through an app setting, SMS command, reset or normal firmware update.

GPS & Location

Why is my tracker showing the wrong location?
First check whether the tracker has a true GPS position or an approximate cellular/LBS position. When satellite reception is weak, the displayed location may be less accurate. Test outdoors with a clear view of the sky and away from large metal obstructions.
What is the difference between GPS and LBS?
GPS uses satellite signals and is normally more accurate in open outdoor conditions. LBS estimates position from the cellular network and is commonly used when GPS is blocked or unavailable, so the error can be much larger.
Why is GPS less accurate indoors or underground?
Satellite signals can be weakened or blocked by buildings, concrete, underground parking, tunnels and metal. Move the tracker outdoors before deciding there is a GPS hardware problem.

App & Offline Issues

Why does my tracker show Offline or Inactive?
Offline does not always mean defective. Depending on the model and working mode, the tracker may enter a power-saving state while stationary. Other causes include poor cellular coverage, no mobile data, incorrect APN, low battery, SIM/service problems or a heavily shielded location.
Why does the app show Not Enabled?
For an own-SIM version, verify SIM data service, Device ID, coverage and the correct APN if required. For subscription or built-in IoT versions, confirm subscription/activation status. If it continues, contact Support with the Device ID and a screenshot; subscription cases may also require the SIM ICCID.
Why does the tracker come Online when the vehicle moves?
Some trackers use movement-based power saving. They reduce activity while stationary, then wake, reconnect and resume uploads when movement or vibration is detected.

Alerts, Battery & Sleep Mode

What is sleep mode?
Sleep mode reduces power consumption while the tracker is stationary. Depending on the model and selected mode, GPS and/or mobile network activity may be reduced until movement or another supported wake event occurs.
Why is battery life shorter than the advertised standby time?
Standby time is different from continuous tracking time. Battery life depends on upload frequency, GPS use, mobile signal strength, movement, alarms, working mode, temperature and battery condition.

Troubleshooting

Why doesn’t my tracker reply to SMS?
SMS functions require a tracker/firmware version that supports them and a SIM capable of ordinary SMS. Check SIM PIN, SMS service, device power and local network service. Data-only IoT SIMs may not support customer SMS commands.
What do the indicator lights mean?
On many models, solid yellow indicates no GPRS/mobile-data connection and flashing yellow indicates a data connection; solid blue indicates no GPS and flashing blue indicates GPS connection; red commonly indicates charging. Light behavior can vary, so the supplied model manual takes priority.
Should I reset the tracker or change server settings?
Not as a first troubleshooting step. Factory resets, server changes, firmware procedures and engineering commands can vary by hardware or firmware and may make a working device go Offline. Use only the procedure in your exact model manual or follow Winnes Support guidance.
